WATCHING LEGISLATION

IN THE FARMERS' INTERESTS.

. The foljowing members of: Parliament attended the meeting-, of '■ the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' - Union, held !in Wellington to-day:— Messrs.-A. D. M'Leod (Wairarapa), G. R. Sykes ;; (Masterton), R. ' Masters (Stratford), E. A. Ransom (Pahiatua), and 3. Macpherson (Oamaru). . : . - V The 'president, "of .the New Zealand "Farmers' Union, \V. J. ■Poison,, said the' Executive Committee had with them that', morning five members of ; Parliament, and the members of.. the union knew the object of their visit. During the past'few months the Farmers'. Union had asked these gentlemen to become i-.=i Parliamentary Committee to consider of ; interest to the : farming ! community, and to discuss those matters with,the executive of the Farmers' Union when they arose—-to hammeV put the questions and arise- at, conclusions important to the farmers and producers generally from, an entirely non-party standpoint. : The members of Parlia-. merit had kindly consented to assist the executive, and were now prepared to discuss, matters with! them. . '•■■ . :The .presidanf.'said,the first question to. decide was whether the .^proceedings should be open to the Press.
