RESIGNATION IN JAPAN

While the Government and the country generally are extremely disappointed at the reports regarding "Japanese exclusion, which will doubtlessly be adopted when Congress votes upon the conferees' report on the Immigration Bill, there is a spirit of resignation.''. :.. Chinese residents in Tokio, taking advantage of . the American immigration situation, planned a large demonstration to protest publicly against the restrictions on Chinese immigration to Japan, but upon the advice of the Chinese Minister abandoned the plan, and the delegates instead visited the. Foreign Minister, stating that China expects the same consideration from Japan as Japan hopes to. obtain'from-the "United States. ,The refusal, of the Japanese to permit Chinese immigrants to, land in Japan,: they say, is an insult comparable with the insult to Japan marked by American exclusion ; and it was, moreover, impossible for coloured races 'to stand together while Japan herself negatived the principle. ,
