SCHOOL STAFFING
BASIS OF CALCULATION.
The basing of school calculations as tc capitation and teachers' salaries; .oil aver- *" • age attendance, and not an average roll, was the subject, of a circular to householders' meetings in the different schools last night from the New Zealand Educational Institute. I Resolutions on the lines of a remit from the X.Z.E.I. were passed at tho meetings at Scatoun, New town, Brooklyn. Lyall Bay, Island Bay, Hataitai, Kilbirnie, Petone, and in several other • districts, urging the adoption of tho •""'"'age roll for staffing and capitation, lhe anomalies of tho present system, and its effect on tho capitation paid to committees and the staffing of the schools, were emphasised at the Kilbirnie •householders-meeting. The headmas- ' ter stated that calculation on tho average loll' would give the school another teacher for the staff. The treasurer said that if it were not for the services and help of the householders, the committee could not keep goiug on its capitation and the same rate of pavement ana staffing be •maintained,
