The' Berlin , correspondent of "Tne Times" etates that the polling, passed off without'serious-incident; The gravity of ■ the issue- appeared to be amply recognised by the great majority of the electors. There was a very Heavy poll. The experts' report played a big part in the later stages of the Government, campaign; in fact, it became the main issue from the moment the Government had officially advocated its acceptances Since then the Government speakers, especially Herr Stresemann, have used hardly any other argument to ensure their return. The. cards are considered to have been so 1,7611 played that Government circles display some confidence in regard to the probable result. The Nationalists havevbeen shaken -somewhat, in their faith that the^: could secure a big majority for their policy of resistance. The . loss of Dr. •_, Helfferich" at the critical point in the campaign meant a great . deal to them; and they have since flo'un- ', clered hopelessly owing to lack of compe-; tent leadership. Their few prominent v'meh have failed to "offer" any alternative ' to the Government's new policy.
