EASTBOURNE.

Some eighty persons attended the an-'l nual householders' meeting at East bourne, and many subjects were dis- j cussed. Mr. H. L. Wright occupied the ;chair. The committee's report stated that the attendance stands at 320, and the committee had"not 'lost' sight of the necessity of endeavouring to secure extra accommodation and ground, but the authorities had not been able to help in that direction. In Standard VI., 17 pupils gained proficiency- certificates and four competency certificates were awarded. There were two failures only. Towards the end of 1923 the school had the honour of a visit from,-the Governor-General : when a flag, donated by the; Navy League, vfas • presented to the children, lne membership now .totals-148 * The Mayor (Mr.F. H: Mather) again donated two scholarships of £5 each, and the committee expressed it^ appreciation of his continued assistance. The scholarslu PS ?; ere -warded to Aileen Davidson and VVilard Martin. A Christmas fair? to obtain funds for the purchase of play .appliances, realised the sum of £64.
