OLYMPIC GAMES

HOUSING THE ATHLETES.:

Good progress is being made with pre* parations for housing the army of fori eign athletes which is to participate in. the Olympic Games in Paris in April,. says, a correspondent of the " Daily Telegraph." A village-ofhutments is in course . of erection at Colombes, which is near , the Stadium, and it is now announced that the Paris Municipal Council has offered the organising committee a ground at the < Pare dcs Prjnces, situ- : ated a little over three miles away, .{or' a" second village. ■ The rent and the general cost of'living will be much cheaper at the Pare dcs Princes than at Col- j ombe^, .the daily cost of lodging at the former being roughly estimated at 25f or 30f, and at the latter at about 55f. A large number of English and American competitors will be accommodated in two chateaux . that have been rented, and special arrangements of a partial nature have been made by another nation, and it is hoped that these, in addition to the two villages, will provide simple housing for all. the athletes, ' ' . ■. .. If this should prove to be the case, a great problem will have been solved, but £ much vaster problem presents itself when one thinks of the immense number of visitors that will be attracted to Paris by the Olympic Games. Even normally the hotel accommodation of the. capital, great as it is, is put to a severe strain, and far some time past most hotels h;ive been continually full. Up. to the present il. looks as. though it is going to be left to private initiative to deal \vith this^emergency, and an effort is in progrccs to ascertain approximately the amount.of accommodation, that the tenants of habitations in Paris and its ■ i neighbourhood are prepared to provide.
