YOUNG SOLDIER ARRESTED
GREAT EXCITEMENT IN CAMP.

LONDON, 9th April, As the-. sequel to a long cross-examin-ation, Lance-Corporal John Goldenberg, :i native of Swansea, and art inmate of the Borden camp, has been arrested on the charge of murdering Mr. HalL, the local banker. ...-.'■ Goldenberg is a Jew. of Polish' extraction, aged 21 years, and served in the Army for two years. Decently he applied for his discharge, and then withdrew the application, as friends withdrew an offer of £51000 to put him into business. His, barracks are almost opposite the bank, where he had an account. < The news of his arrest caused wild excitement in the camp. Crowds of soldiers and. civilians'gathered at the camp and the police station during the evening.' Search parties on , Tuesday night also made an. important discovery in camp, including £500 worth of notes' hidden in a latrine, a smaller bundle of notes under a bush behind the orderly r room, and a £5 bag of silver in straw, i and a service revolver which had been j missing, buried under some wood. The " Daily Express " says that half j ,\n hour before his arrest Goldeuberg ■was talking and smiling wil.h a news-' paper man who questioned him about a statement Goldenberg made to the police regarding1 a small cheque cashed for the adjutant on Thursday afternoon. Goldenberg v.-as apparently arrested owing to information which came' from the regimental sergeant-major, who summoned the police to the orderly-rooai bytelephone. ' . : i' ' .
