HOSPITAL FEES

This evening, at 8 o'clock, in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall, Mr, Will Appleton, a.member of the Wellington Hospital Board, will, under the auspices o£ the Civic League, deliver a lecture on. " Hospital Fees and Administration." The lecturer will review what has been done by the Hospital Board in the matter of the collection of fees, and will deal with the objections to free hospitals-, also with the position of "permenant " patients, consumptives, old-age pensions, destitute persons, and Government employees. Some of the lastnamed, Mr. Appleton declares, appear to consider, though quite erroneously, that the hospital is a semi-Government institution at which they are entitled to receive treatment free of charge. Considerable interest has been aroused in this question of hospital fees, so it is expected the meeting will be well attended both by supporters and opponents of the present fees system. Mr. Appleton knows his subject. When seeking election to the Hospital Board he made it clear that he wopld, if returned, do all he could to remedy the existing state of things. Since then he has made a very careful study of the position.
