J. Paterson, b« uppointed Chief Engineer at a salary of ±^50 per annum, such appointment to -bo given immediate effect to." I am not personally capable of- offering an opinion as to whether the appointment would bo the best in, the interest of the city wuhout knowing who .else; might be available, but I would like to point out what appeal's to me inconsistency on Mr. Parton's part, In the "New Zealand Times" of 23rd April, 1923 (just betore ' the election of councillors) Mr Parton, in soliciting the. votes 1 of elenl tors, promised his support to seven policy schemes; the seventh on tliat list was as follows: "Keorganisation of the City Engineer's and Town Clerk's Departments to ensure, greater efficiency." 1 ask, in view of the Investigation Committee's report, is the motion he intends to bring up at the next council meeting in accordance with his election pro" mise?—l am, etc.,' .
