THE VISITING WARSHIPS

ENTERTAINMENT FUNDS',

A circular letter, signed by,the Mayor, has been issued by the reception committee ■ which is making arrangements for the entertainment of the officers and men\ of the.-Imperial Naval. Squadron, appealing to the citizens of Wellington to contribute, towards the expenses fund. A misprint in >he final paragraph of the letter conveys, an altogether wrong: impression. 'It states that.the "minimum" contribution will be £25 for companies .and firms, and £5 ss-for individuals, instead of "maximum" as intended. The error, was ■ not noticed until a ' large number had been posted, and quite the reverse- was asked for -than' what was intended..- Contributions of any sum will be gladly accepted, but the committee xonsider that a maximum should be set.

Arrangements are being made Tor a' detachment of the" naval men to visit Masterton on 29th April. Details in connection with the. excursion were sub.mitted to the Under-Secretary of Internal' Affairs (Mr. J. Hisrop) yesterday by the Mayor of Mastevtoii (Mr. Pragnell), who promised to forward' the detailed plans as soon' as they had been approved by the , executive committee. These Will, in due course, be forwarded to Admiral Field for his approbation before it is' finally decided upon. The number of men who will make the trip over the Rimutakas to the'-Wairarapa P-lains will be between 400 and .500. Some fifty officers. will be included.
