WELLINGTON CLUB
The annual meeting of the Wellington Golf. Club was held last'evening, "when Mr. W. A.-Kiely presided. ; The annual report stated £hat the' revenue account for the year showed a net balance of £54 lls id,' as against £248 10s 4d last-year. The expenses shpwed only slight variations, but the receipts in several cases showed decreases. Subscriptions amounted to £2461 18s" 9d ;as against £2642 6s 6d^ in the previous year, and green fees £171 5s 6d as against £214 lls Id. The liability by way of debentures was reduced £110 through donations of debentures. The actual improvement in the club's financial position during the year was shown to be £392 8s Id. The membership v^as' stated as follows :—Life" 2 ; ordinary : men ISB, ladies 65, absentee 32, limited 32, ,mid-week 5, country 48.- The'assets of the club were shown' to total £14.373 12s Bd. ■ .
The committee elected for the ensuing year was as follows :—Messrs. H. R. H. Balneavis, P. B, Cooke, W. A. Kiely, and A. Strang. ■ The ' auditors (Messrs. Watkins, Hull, Hunt, and Wheeler) were re-electr.d.-Mr. Kiely, in'retiring from the position of captain, which he has held for two years," thanked the committee and other officers for their assistance during the year. He said the smallneas of the. annual meeting waslio doubt to be taken as a compliment to the officers.' There was no .criticism for members to offer.
Mr. A. R.'Sclanders, the ensuing year's captain, thanked .members for the honour accorded him. He said one serious matter was the falling-off in subscriptions', and he urged" members to endeavouv to secure new arrivals as members. Generally members Were not taking sufficient interest in the club, and he hoped this year would see an improvement. They did not'want growling, but would be pleased to receive suggestions. He remarked . that it was proposed: this ■ year to add a veterans' match, and if possible a la-dies' team, to play Christchurch, in conjunction with the Tuson Cup match proper. Christchurch was putting up a cup for tho veterans, and he hoped Heretaunga would put up one for 4he ladies. '
The meeting agreed to an increase of 2s yearly in the subscription, this being the amount to go to increase tho funds of the Golf Council.
■,The club rules were amended to provide that in the case of a member having voluntarily resigned and desiring to re-enter the club, such re-entry shall be subject to election as in the case of a new member, but the member shall not be required to pay more than the difference between the entrance fee previously paid and the entrance fee ruling in the club at the time of the re-election.
A' report on the tennis courts showed that it vy-ould-cost £210 to put them in order. "sihe chairman said the club's revenue from the tjennis courts was less than half this amount. The committee would p.robably do what it could to- put the courts in as good order as possible with funds available.
Mr. Chapman suggested that tho committee should consider making a reciprocal .arrangement whereby ■ jliramar members would be able to join lleretainign without paying Hie full entrance fee.
