ACCURATE ANTICIPATION
SUGGESTED MILD COMPROMISE.
LONDON, 17th March.
The "Daily Telegraph's" Parliamentary correspondent says that the Cabinet has taken its final decision regarding Singapore, so that Viscount Chelmsford and Mr. C. G. Ammon will announce on Tuesday that the scheme is to be abandoned. He will disclose the communications on the subject received from the Dominion Governments. Australia and New Zealand, as might be expected, declare themselves wholeheartedly in favour of going on with the work; Canada is lukewarm; and South Africa is against the enterprise. The statement will show that the present facilities will, be .maintained at Singapore, and that the oil storage facilities- will be considerably developed, this work necessitating £200,000 in the new estimates. The Opposition .intend to attack the. Government's 'decision regarding Singapore with great vigour.
