It is understood that Mr. Richmond Dunn, Dental Supervisor of the Health Department, has resigned his position.. Sir. H. A. Goudie, Conservator of State Eorests,. who has been visiting Palmerston North on departmental business, has returned to Rotorua. Mr. V. French, travelling secretary for the Presbyterian Young Men's Bible C^ass movement, is visiting Palmerston North. Dr. 0. J. Reid recently returned from England after; four years' post-graduate study, and intends to reside in Wellington. 3tfr. J. A. Young, M.P., for Hamilton, Chairman of Committees of the H'puse of Representatives, is visiting Wellington on matters concerning his constituency. He will return to the North to-morrow.. Mr. L. Glover left this morning for "\Vhnganui, where he will represent the •waterside workers' organisation in applications before the Arbitration Court for interpretation of the award. The Rev. A. Ashcroft, president of the Methodist Conference, is ' on a visit to Palmerston North, where he was for sojne years in charge of the Cuba Street Church. A resolution of regret at the death of De.an Lane, and of respect to His memory, was passed at lust evening's meeting of the Pet'one Borough Council. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, made reference to the great interest the late dean had taken in 'all matters concerning the■welfare of the whole Hutfc 'Valley, and to tig general philanthropic qualities.~ The death took place late on Sunday night, at Palmerston North, after a lengthy illness, of Mr. F. D. Opie, aged 53' years, who vras for a lengthy period director of .the Palmerston North Technical School.- He was born at Oxford, Canterbury, 'and. was the son of the late Rev. F. i\ Opie._ The late Mr. F. D. Opie, after serving a term as ' pupil; teacher, was appointed headmaster of the school at Kelvin Grove, and later filled a similar position at Turakina. Sixteen years ago he was appointed Director of the Palmerston North Technical School, Which position he continued icCtord" until ill-health compelled him to Tej-i'gn recently. He is survived by his yidow and a family of five sons.
