THE CITY ENGINEER
FILLING THE VACANCY
APPLICATIONS FROM ABROAD
The report of tho committee set up to investigate the working of the city engineer's department will be available at next Thursday's meeting of the City Council, but it will probably be deferred for discussion at a special meeting, as was done with the other special reports upon refuse collection and transport. •The roport contains a recommendation in regard to the filling of tho vacancy causod by the deatli of tho late city engineer, Mr. W. H. Morton. Ihe Mayor (Mr. R, A. Wright, M.P.) has given notice of his intention to move on llmrsday evening: "That applications bo invited.in Groat Britain, Australia, and New Zealand for tho position of city engineer for Wellington at a salary of £1200 per annum, rising by annual increments of £100 per annum to a maximum of £1500 per annum. Applicants to be under 40 years of age." In view of the committee's recommendation, however, it is probable that the motion will be deferred until after tlio report has been discussed.
