"HANDS TIED"
HARBOUR BOARD AND THE ANNUAL MEETING.
The fact that the date of the annual statutory meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board for the production of ' the year's accounts is fixed by law was commented on by the chairman. Mr. G. Mitchell, at the annual meeting of the board this afternoon. He said he thought the board should again approach the Government with a view to having an alteration made in the Act. The present legislation tied the board's hands overmuch, prescribing that the annual meeting should be held one certain day at a certain hour. The time of the meeting was sometimes fixed at an hour when the country members were unable to attend. "I think the Government might well allow some latitude in fixing a day within a reasonable period which would suit us best."
