OIL LEASES FIGHT.
RESIGNATION OF ROOSEVELT WANTED.
WASHINGTON, 15th March. Representative Stevensou to-day demanded that Theodore Roosevelt Assistant Secretary for the Navy> should immediately resign his portfolio on the ground that Mrs. Roosevelt had acquired 10^ shares n, the Sinclair Oil Company, which obtained tho Government leases! Stevenson declared that, since Roosevelt had a part in panting such leases, he should not retain his portfolio. ' Representative. Longworth ' who is Roosevelt's brother-in-law, defended him, declaring that Mrs. Roosevelt's property was her own and moreover, that she disposed of the stock at a loss before the leases wero granted. ' , Stevenson and Lontjworth quarrelled, the former defying the latter to challenge Ins word outside the House of Representatives.
