Mr. 0. H, Orr-Walker, S.M., dealt with police and maintenance cases at the Magistrate's Court tUis morning. Seven first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 10s, and for a similar offence, Alfred John Johanson was fined £1.: Martin Samuelson was convicted and discharged, and for committing a breach of his prohibition order was fined £5, in default 21 days' imprisonment; Jeannie Turpin wk3 fined £1, in default three days' imprisonment, and a prohibition order was issued against her; and George Handham was fined £2. Arthur Hunt Henry Stevenson appeared foi^ sentence on the charge of obtaining £33 10s by means of false pretences. Chiof-Detective Kemp stated that since the accused appeared before tho Court on Friday it had been ascertained that another charge of a similar nature was pending, and to investigate that ho would ask for a week's remand. Accused was accordingly remanded. He is to be kept in custody: Roy William Spencer pleaded guilty to the theft of an Australian Terrier pup valued at £5, from Robert William Charles Upton, and was fined £5, in default fourteen days'" imprisonment. The police stated that the articles had been taken from shop-fronts while the accused had been intoxicated.
