FIGHT FOR THE FRANC
SUCCESS OF LIGHTNING
CAMPAIGN.
LONDON, 14th March. The Bank of France entered the fight for the stability of tho franc on Monday morning. The public is delighted at the success of its four days' campaign.
The ease with which France obtained credit in London and New York was a revelation' to the German speculators, acting through Amsterdam, Vienna, and Milan. When it was known that enormous credits were arranged, all the bears ' rusted to cover their commitments at any price. Apart from the foreign speculators, the French investing public contributed t3 the trouble by embarking on a mad course of buying dollars and pounds. This week's statement of the Bank of France shows a decrease of 336 million francs in paper money, which has had a salutary effect.
