CABINET AT CANBERRA

SYDNEY, This Day.
The first sittings of the Federal Cabinet at Canberra were held in the old homestead which is now used for a Government Hostel. The historic event was attended by Ministers and thenwives, officials, an army of photographers and newspaper men, and many visitors from the surrounding districts. After speeches in felicitation of the occasion, Cabinet dealt with a number of matters relating to .the Federal Territory and the erection of buildings within the Capital area. . Cabinet decided that all Federal lands should be offered by public auction on a 99 years' lease basis. Die first auction will be five hundred allotments in October next. The claims of the Churches were -considered, and necessary sites for them allotted. Steps fwere taken to speed up the'construction of the Capital buildings, and also the erection of a National War Memorial ■ for which competitive designs will be called, the prizes varying from £1000 to £ow.
