ASHBURTON BAND'S QUANDARY
(IT TSLIORiri rUSS ISSOCUTIOS.)
ASHBURTON, This Day. The Ashburton Band, which' distinguished itself at the last contest in XJunedin, is anxiously considering the difficulties of participating both at Christchurch and Palmerston North. The 1 b/andmastsr states that, owing to the generosity of the public,1 they have sufficient funds, but trouble would be experienced in sufficient members securing a fortnight's leave of «absence. H-e points out that the present is a unique opportunity, because^ firstly; both contests occur during^ the same, fortnight; and, secondly, the contest pieces are identical; also that the contest experience at Christchurch would be an assistance at Palmerston North. Participation at Palmerston North has not been finally abandoned. It is understood, if it is found practicable to go, Ashburton will be the only southern band competing at Palmerston North.
