CHABGES AGAINST MARTIN.

CHBISTCHURCH, This Day. R., D. Martin, ex-union secretary, appeared at the Magistrate's Court on charges of theft of £164 Os Id, £89 8s 6d, £40 11s Bd, and £64 7s 9d, the property of the Bakers' and Pastrycooks' union, and £316 Is Bd, and £308 13s 4d, the property of the Retail Shop Assistants' Union. He was also charged on two counts with making a false declaration regarding the officers and members of the Hairdressers' Union, and on two similar counts in respect to the Christchurch Clerks' Union, and one count in respect to the Bakers and Pastrycooks' Union. The police, in asking for a remand, said they were prepared to go on with the case on Wednesday. The Magistrate said the former bail was not now sufficient, and fixed bail at £500, and one surety of £000.
