GERMAN SEAMEN STRIKE
INFRINGEMENT OF ;THE LAW.
. (Received 31st January, 2 p.m.) 'LONDON, 30th January. Mr. Havelock Wilson, on-behalf of the National Seamen's and Firemen's Union, has telegraphed to Mr. MacDonald pointing out that twelve hundred seamen on German vessels 'in the United Kingdom have struck against the low wages of £3 a month, as compared with" £9 paid by British and . other shipowners. Consequently, German ships are leaving British ports seriously undermanned, endangering other vessels trading in British waters. He states tliat cases have been reported to the Board '.of Trade, but the Government has taken no action to prevent the infringement ■of the law, which he urges should be impartially applied.
