BIG CARNIVAL NEXT SATURDAY.
If the weather is fine next Saturday afternoon, Wellington people will have! the opportunity of seeing some of New: Zealand's best swimmers in action at To Aro Baths. The carnival, which has been arranged by the Wellington Centre. pf the New-Zealand Swimming Association, promises to bo one oJ the most interesting held. in Wellington for some '• time. Teams from . Canterbury and j Wellington will compete for the Norden.; Cup, and the contestants will include those swimmers who represented their province at the national championships at Wanganui.. The Wellington team will be as follows:—D. Jtfurrell, H. Winstanley, R. B. Wheeley, C. Claridge, 0. V.. Fordiram, E. Patterson, and E. S. Evans, Emergencies: Barrett, .Fletcher, and M'Hurdy, Other prominent swimmers from Otago and Canterbury will participate in the various events,among them being tho following winners of championships at Wanganui:— 0. Atkinson (Canterbury), 880 yards and mile; C. Herd (Canterbury), 220----yards breast-stroke and New' Zealand record; N. Batchelor (Canterbury), 220 yards; D.'Lindsay (South Canterbury), 880 yards intermediate boys; S. Loader (Canterbury), 75 yards breast-stroke'; W. Keesing (Otago), diving; Miss Gwitha" Shnnd (Canterbury), 100 nnd 440 yards; Miss M. Jepson (Otago), 75 and 100 yards intermediate. With such competitors engaged tho races should be of a very interesting order, and some good performances should be registered. The carnival wil^ bo in charge of the very best officials available, and the various events: will be got off well up to time.
