WELLINGTON EXECUTIVE-MEETS.

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Centre executive of the British Red Cross was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. T. Munt presided. The secretary reported that the billiard tables at. Pukeor-v Sanatorium had been repaired at a cost of '£67 16s 3d, and they were now in perfect order. TheNmeeting ratified the appointment of Mr. J. Hodgson to fill the position of Red Cross representative at Pukeora, left vacant through the resignation of Mrs. H. M. Tidey. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Tidey. "Mowai," a Word suggested by the Hon. A. T. Ngata, meaning "calm and peaceful," was decided upon as the future name for the Hobson street home for chronically disabled men. ' It was decided that Messrs. Firth and Galloway should canvass- prominent motor traders with a view to securing the loan of cars to carry the "society's patients at Porirua to picnics. Mention was also made, of these patients' real appreciation of the visits made to Porirua at regular intervals by Messi*s. Burnett and Firth. Medical men were very flattering in their praise of the idea, ar-d thought the men were greatly helped by the, visitors' gifts and presence. ' The December^repovt from Pukeora showed that the inmates had been -well catered for in-regard to Christmas festivities. Card . parties and tournaments of all kinds iiad been successfully arranged, and local concert parties had visited the institution. A start had been made with the first issue of "The Puke Oracle," but owing to tho approach of Christmas it had been decided to 'postpone publication until well on into the New Year. The thanks of the matron of the Hobson Street Home are due to the following for gifts and services to the patients: —Lady Liverpool, Lady Luke, Mrs. Moss, Miss Beckett, Dr. and Mrs. Adams, the Eastbourne Borough Council, the Lambton Station staff, Mr. A. de Brandon, Lo*fd Jelliqoe, Miss Yaliance, Mr.. Dinneen, Mr. Scott, Mrs. Joseph, Mrs. W. Nathan, Miss Joseph, Mrs. Moorhouse, Mrs. C'oriedinc, Mrs. Hall, and Miss Lowe. There are now 22 men in the home. Pleasing reference was made to the work of the chairman, Mr. T. Munt, who is leaving New Zealand shortly to attend the conference of the League of Red Cross Societies in Paris in February. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Munt, together with many good wishes for his safe return. Mr. Burnett, is to fill the position of chairman until Mr. Munt's return.
