BAND CONTEST
The annual band contest ofl the N. 1.8.8, Association, being held at Palmerston North from 11th to 16th February, is already attracting widespread attention, soloists coming from Sydney as well as from all over the Dominion. No less than sixteen bands have entered, a record number, whose massed playing on Monday and Wednesday should be a rare treat at the civic reception and the quickstep respectively. Palmerston's spacious showgroundsl have been requisitioned, a special contest rotunda being erected opposite the grandstand, so that the contests will constitute a series of open-air concerts. Admission is only one shilling, though a 7s 6d season ticket admits bearer to best seat at no less than twenty different functions and performances. Mr. A. E. Mansford, Box 148, is the Palmerston secretary, from whom further details are procurable. '■
