BURNS ANNIVERSARY

A successful banquet and social on inday evemne represented the Welling-' ton Scottish Society and Pipe Band's recognition of the anniversary of Scotland s own bard, Robert Burns The hall in Cuba street had bSen suitably decorated, and in addition to the members of the local society, the Caledonian body of the Hutt Valley was well represented Captain C. M'Arthur, the Scottish chief, was in the chair, and associated with him were Chieftain G. Lachlan Treasurer N. M'Lean, and the chief of the visitors from the Valley, Mr. N. Bertram. The usual toasts were honoured. It was a truo Scottish evening with dances, music, song, arid the appropriate haggis, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the many merry-makere present, both young and old. The programme consisted, of a selection by the Pipe Band; songs, accompanied by Mrs. MacMillan, being rendered by Mrs Watt, "Star o' Rabbie ■ Burns" ; Mrs. Scott-Allan, "Scots Wha Hae"; Miss Stokes "Mary of Argyle"; Mr. Simpson Lass o* Ballochmyle"; Mr. Marshall, Hundred Pipers"; Mr. Pirie, "Some Scotch" ;' and a violin and piano duet by Mr. Duncan McLennan and Mrs. MacMillan. Mr. MacLennan also danced a sheauntriubbhas, and although over sixty years of age, his agility and precision were wonderful. The Scottish Wanderer* Football Club also took tho opportunity of presenting a largo framed photograph of their last season's team as a token of their appreciation of tha society's support.
