The astronomical section of the Philosophical Society is organising a public deputation to wait upon the New Zealand Institute at its annual meeting, to be -held in Victoria College to-morrow afternoon. The members of the institute are the trustees for the Carter bequest, which was established 28 years ago for the purpose of establishing an, observatory in Wellington, and the fund' now stands at over £5000. The deputation will be.led by the Hon! Dr. Newman, who will make a request for sufficient funds from the bequest to put up an observatory building. The value of\ the site and the new telescope is about £4000, and a suitable building, including a library, and lecture-room, can be put up for between £3000 and £4000..
