RONA DISQUALIFIED IN THIRD RACE

Disappointment was shared by many hundreds of people on Saturday afternoon that the fourth race for the Sanders Cup did not eventuate. The caiiße of their dissatisfaction was that the Sailing Committee took so long to consider the protests^ lodged at the conclusion of the morning's race that by the time they had reached a decision it was too late to proceed with the afternoon., event. Meanwhile, crowds of people gathered along the foreshore, at the Boat Harbour, and on the wharves to witness the race. The committee deliberated and he>rd evidence from 2.40 p.m. until 5

p.m., and then announced that the protests had been upheld, and that the third rac 6 had been awarded to the second boat, Linnet. The crowd interested in the race that did not come off was undoubtedly the largest that had gathered in Wellington to see a yachting event. 6

The effect of Rona's disqualification for fouling another boat in the morning's race was that instead of two boats taking part in the final races of the- contest there will be three. Actually the first three eliminating races on the series have been won respectively by Rona, Murihiku, and Rona, but "the protest lodged by Otago against the Auckland boat;-in the third event gave that race to the second boat, Linnet. Thus Auckland, Southland, And Canterbury remain in the contest, and the three provincial representatives will race off until one boat has three wins to her credit.
