CHRISTCHURCH GAS COMPANY
The directors of the ChristcKurch Gas, Coal, and Coke Company, Ltd., report foi the year ended 31st December that quotations for mains, meters, and materials, are somewhat easier, but. ,still much,.higher than pre-war prices. D.ur- , ing ".the year nearly five miles of mains ,were laid, which now bring the total mileage to over 23? miles.. Notwithstanding coal Strikes on the West Coast, ■the "company has been able to build up coal, stocks from Newcastle, artd now Jiolds a satisfactory supply. The 500,000 limit of vertical retorts has been in operation, for only a' few months, so that it ;wilF be during the current year that the company will feel the full benefit. The new- purifiers are now completed, and shortly will be. put into operation. The demand for cookers, coppers, and geysers' continues very satisfactory. On Ift February, 1923, the price of gas was Teduced by 3d per 1000 cubic feet, and on Ist October a further reduction- of 2d per 1000 was made. The directors f have provided £11,455 12s lOd'in revenue account for depreciation on the company's plant. They'now, recommend a dividend of 5s per share in addition to the interim dividend already paid, to i carry £5000, to reserve account, and to carry, forward the-.balance, £5863 10s 4d. Messrs. B. L. Lane and William • Eeece, retiring directors, offer themselves for re-election.
