Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., presided at Saturday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court.. - • Two first offenders for drunkenness were each fined ss, in default 48 hours. A remand till 30th January was granted in the case of Herbert Fake, who was charged with assaulting Alexander Hancock at Eastbourne' on the 25th JanuaTy, and of breaking1 and entering by day the premises of Alexander Hancock, with intent to commit a crime. Bail was allowed in one surety, of £50. Michael Lipinski was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, on a charge of drunkenness, and for using obscene language on a tramcar, was sentenced .to seven days' imprisonment. .. On ; similar- charges Florence Turner was fined ss, and £3, in default seven days' ..imprisonment., respectively. John WUHani Colter was remanded till 4th February on charges of being idle and disorderly, and of entering New Zealand without permission to do so. It was explained by.- the police that Colfer was a young American who had got into the country as a stowaway. Arrangements might be made to have him sent back to America. One first offending inebriate was convicted and discharged, and another, who did not appear, was fined the amount of his bail, 10s, at a sitting of the Mount Cook Police Court on Saturday. Henry Greenfield, who appeared on a third charge of drunkenness, was fined- £1, in default three days' imprisonment.. Mr. W. H. Coy,' J.P., was on the Bench.
