The "Morning Post's" Paris correspondent states that the returns for 1923 show that France's imports are valued at 32,614 million franca, an increase of 8684 millions compared with 1922. Exports are valued at 30,431 millions, an increase of 9052 millions. Exports of manufactures have increased by 3961 millions to 16,232 millions, and imports of manufactures have increased 301f millions, to 435 millions. Imports of raw materials have increased by 14,044 millions, largely due to the low purchasing power of the franc. Meanwhile, the cost of living is advancing by leups and bounds. Food that cost 100 francs in' 1914 costs 354 francs to-day,—clothing that once cost a similar sum is now 392 francs, lighting, heating 350, and other necessities 400 francs. Rents have only doubled. Exceptionally heavy French purchases of cotton and wool in January when the exchanges began to soar, make a further increase in indent figures inevitable.
