MOTOR, DRIVING.

In spite of the fact that only one member of the appointed committee put in an appearance, the motor-driving competions in connection with Welcome Week which were held at Newtown Park on Friday evening, proved a distinct success. Numerous entries-far all'four divisionsheavy, light, ladies', and boys'— wereL_received, and in consequence the deciding of the competitions occuiped a considerable amount of time, and it was well after 11 o'clock when the final run was made.

The course itself was of a very angulai natur^, aad was marked by pairs of fißgs, those in each pair being , seven feet apart. Each motorist in turn had to drive between the flags, in the doing o- which it was necessary to execute almost every possible manoeuvre both ahead and reverse, and the one registering the fastest time with the fewest number of flags down, was adjudged the winner. Three minutes was taken as the standard time, and for every ten seconds over two points were deducted, with a further two for each peg knocked over. , At the conclusion of the event for heavy cars, it was found that both Pickering and Moncrieff had scosed 210 points, so a final run was agreed upon. In this, tTie former competitor was successful with 206 points, Moncrieff scoring 204. Alan C.
