AUCKLAND, This Day. The principals who are to row for the Australasian sculling championship, ou the upper reaches of the Waifemata Harbour on Saturday next have almost completed active preparations for the big event, and as both are in fine trim and equally confident that they will be first to catch the judge's eye, the race should be well worth seeing. Hannan, holder of the /title, has established his camp at Riverhead, while M'Devitt, the Australian challenger, is doing his training fr^om his headquarters at Whenuapai, about four miles away. In addition to the title there is a stake of £500 a-eide. This is the first time that a match of the importance of this one has been rowed on the Waitemata, and the two men are agreed that the course se lected.is equal .to any in Australia or New Zealand, and superior to many which have been used for championships. The race' is to start about 4 p.m., on slack water of high tide, and, given fine weather, with not too 'much wind, the conditions should be ideal Hannan, who is a .native of Wellington has the services of a first-class trainer in George Wareham, who was long connected with the Blenheim Rowing" Club and prepared the present, champion for the race with Arnst, for the championship of the world. ■ M'Devitt, a native of Tasmania, used a new Towns boat, but lighter and of finer lines. He is at the training quarters of Mr. J. W. BrinBon, an Australian, and when seen yesterday was looking exceptionally well He should step into his boiit at 12st 41bs, a tew pounds heavier than Han nun. He has a very attractive stylo. tIHiJ In* « n »!s uh the uhuw!« liu.B aiVen las trauier co»plct« eatisiwtion
