WRITING TO A COURT

IMPUGNED
TRADES COUNCIL AND RENT
FIGURES.
_ In connection tyith the correspondence which has passed between Mr. W. Bromley, secretary of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, and the Arbitration Court on the subject of rent statistics, the Registrar of the Court (Mr. J. A ; . Gilniour) has forwarded to "The Post" a copy of a memorandum sent to Mr. Bromley in reply to a leU ter from him published on Thursday. The text of the letter is as follows:
"I am directed by his Honour Mr. Justice Frazer to acknowledge receipt of your, letter of 24th instant, and in reply to say that your explanation that you did not intend your former letter 'to be improper. or offensive is accepted. It was not thought; that the offence was intentional, but, you apparently have not that it is not permissible or proper, -y. when communicating with a Court, to refer to any challenge of its integrity, by whomsoever made, or to suggest that by taking a certain course, of action it may regain the confidence of any body of persons in its impartiality. "I have therefore to say that on receipt of a letter from . you, formally withdrawing your letter of 14th inst., and requesting information as to the matter referred to in that communication,, the Court \vill consider the request, and you will be informed of its decision [in due course."
