WELCOME WEEK
CARNIVAL ENDS TO-NIGHT
. A very high-class programme of events is set down for this evening at Newtown Park, and that finished, the Welcome Week Carnival will be brought to an end. There have been some very keenlycontested events during the week, and despite unfavourable weather on some occasions, everybody has had a most enjoyable time. To-night's carnival underhand chopping handicap, carrying £25 in prize money, is causing a great deal of interest, as it is expected, that many of the best axemen .will be seen dealing with the 16-inch logs. Also on the bill are the five-mile harriers' championship, with £8 for the first three home, and the mile relay race, worth £2 to the winners. There will be numerous other events, and between events there will be good comedy shows, music, dancing, side-shows, etc. This promises to be the best night of the week.
