WAIKANAE YEARLINGS
YESTERDAY'S SALE,
A batch of yearlings by Kilbroney, five colts and five fillies, from the Waikknao btud were submitted at Mr. Lan Duncan b private stables, Thorndon quay yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance, and Mr. Maling, of Pine Gould, Guinness, Christchurch, wielded the hammer. The first lot, the Rebekah colt, which the writer expected to bring top price, topped the list. Hawkes Bay Trainer H. J. Jefferd started him at 000 guineas. The representative of Mr Wrge Tye, of Melbourne, stopped at 900 guineas, and Mr. W. A. Fuller eot him at 950 guineas. H e will be 'trained by H. Pritchard, who also has charge of his full sister, Rachael, owned by Mr. John Corry, of Blenheim. The colt iromtrlen Helen was started at 500 guineas,,and was, knocked down to Mr. iyes representative for 600 .guineas. Mr E. S. Luttrell got the Peace colt for, 300 guineas, Mr. W. G. Stead the brother to.Sunshot for 235 guineas. There was "° uid\ for the Pair Fight colt and the May Hap colt was not sent into the ring. The choicest of the fillies was the last lot, the Snowlike youngster, who was knocked down to Mr. C. E. Elgar for 325 guineas: Mr. J. Fuller, of Picton,. got the Snowstell filly for 275 guineas. She, will be trained by C. : Pritchard, at Trentham.. Mr. H. Lake owner of Idanoe, went to 300 guineas for the Bebe filly. Sh"s will be trained at headquarters by J. Ayres, who will also have in his care the Pot Pourri filly purchased by Mr. A. G. Dilmer, of Masterton, who-has not raced for a long time. After bidding for several1 of the lots, Mr. W. J. Jorgensen, of Wellington, got ,tne Jj^nny Helen filly/ who will go into J. Sullivan's Woodville stable. . . The condition of the yearlings reflected credit on Studmaster Handley, and buyers ' appeared to get good value for their money. The nine lots quitted brought a total of 3260 guineas—an average of 362 i guineas. Details of the sale ,are appended:— ;
