The funeral took place at Karori Cemetery on Wednesday of. the'late Mr. H. S. M'Dowell, a returned soldier (No. 24441). Those present included the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. R. A. Wright), Captain Rockstrow (Defence Department), Mrs. Neilson (Women's National Reserve), Mr. J. R.'. Palmer (Town Clerk), and. representatives of the Returned Soldiers' Association and Pen' Isions Department. The Rev. W. Shirer officiated. The "Last Post" was sounded by Bugler Chegwidden. --. . Wl Burton, of the Salvation Army, who has been stationed in Wellington since January, 1917, is under orders to proceed to Dunedin, where he is to take up the position of Divisional Commander for Otago and Southland. During his sojourn in Wellington the Major has occupied various positions, three years being devoted to work amongst the troops. ■ He has also interested himself in. many matters of public interest, and is consequently a well-known figurs in the community. A public farewell is to be accorded at the Vivian street Citadel on Monday evening next, when representatives of various local bodies will participate. The death occurred in Wellington last week of Mr. George Noble, of Newtown, and a well-known local bowler. Although the late MiC Noble had been in indifferent health for some' .time, his death was quite unexpected. Born in Rangiora 53 years ago,' the ■ deceased' gentleman resided in Wellington for over thirty years, and was in business as a tailor. In his younger days he was a prominent athlete in Canterbury,l and earned a great deal of success as a runner. He was a member of the Newtown Bowling Club for many years, and iii 1918-19 was presiderit 'of. that club. More recently he belonged to the' Wellington Bowling Club, and was an esteemed member. The late Mr. Noble was a son-in-law of Mr. George Prince trie veteran Newtown bowler, and he is survived by a widow and two sons, Mr. G. C. Noble, of Taihapc, and Mr. A. Noble,' of Wellington. He was a member of the Masonic craft as well as a Druid, and at the interment at Karori cemetery on Saturday, where the Rev. J. F. Martin, of the Methodist Central Mission, 'conducted the funeral servic*?, the Masonic rites -were also carried out!
