SHORTAGE OF COAL
MINES AT A STANDSTILL,
(REUTERS TEIEGRAM.> LONDON, 23rd January. The railway managers' -meeting was adjourned without arriving at a decision in, regard to the locomotive men's request for a conference. The strike has led to a serious shortage of coal. The Liverpool and Hull docks are practically at a standstill, and some large coal pits in Doncaster are partially idle. It is feared that thousands of miners m South Yorkshire will be idle at the end of this week.
