■.. ; AUCKLAND, 24th January A sentence of one months' imprisonment,: passed last Friday on Walter Johnson, a railway fireman, for the theft of a case.of benzine from Takanini railway station, was reviewed to-day by Mr Eoynton, S.M., who reduced the penalty tev a fine- of- £5. Johnson has : been severely punished through his dismissal from the railway service. He was a married man with a family, and was a first offender. The offence was serious and future offenders, the Magistrate aid, might not enjoy the same leniency.
