HUTT VALLEY POWER BOARD
The first meeting o! the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board for the current year was held yesterday. Present: Mr. J. W. M'Ewan (chairman), and Messrs. A. J. Hpbbs, W. H. P. Barber, A. W. Press, A.J. M'Curdy. H. Jay. and W. ;T. Cotton. _ The Controller of the Post Office Savings Bank advised that it could accept no deposits from institutions of a mercantile character. ■ ■ • ■ -• •■ '■ ■ A public risk up to £2000 was taken out -with the Government Insurance Department in connection .with the poles to be erected. Consideration of ; the agreement with _the Government Electrical Department in regard to the supply of current' from Mangahao. was held over until the next meeting of the board. The inspector reported having canvassed the' district* of Heretaunga, Silverstream, and Stokes Valley. He was now. working in the Taita and Nai Nai district. Up to date 80 installations had been arranged. .. The resident engineer (Mr. H. Scott) reported -that 166 poles had been carted to their destinations, and that poles were now being distributed at the rata of about 53 per.day. The engineers (Messrs. Templin and Toogood) reported that the price of bare copper wire was rising. The question of the. purchase of this material was left in the hands of the engineers, who wera also authorised to purchase additional transformers required by the increased number of street lights now being arranged fpf. v — The tender of Messrs. P. and D. Duncan for the supply of a crane for-£175 was accepted. ' ' "' The .appointment of motor-lorry drivers -was left in the hands of the resident engineer. , • The engineers reported that the erection of the poles would commence aboui the end of the month. .
