GRAND OPERA HOUSE.

The final performance of the amusing play, "Quarantine," was given at the Grand Opera House last evening by the members of the Lawrence Grossmith Company. To-night the company will appear in another diverting comedy,. "Ambrose Applejohn's Adventure," which is stated to be one of the best plays in which Mr. Grossmith has appeared. In this play Mr. Grossmith appears in the title role, and gives a very finished performance. He has an infinite variety of work to do, first appearing as a polished English gentleman, then ' as a pirate of a particularly unpleasant type, and finally re verts, to the first character again. His lapse into the speech of the pirate is carried out very effectively, and stamps the star as an of outstanding ability. Miss Dorothy Seacombe is said to be well suited to the part of Poppy vFaire, and Miss Diana Wilson skilfully portrays the difficult role of Anna Valeska, a Russian refugee. Other |parts are taken by Edmund Duggan, Adelaide Gunn, Mabel Gower, Leslie Victor, and Ashtbn Jarry. "Ambroce Applejohn's Adventure," which is quite out of the ordinary, run of comedies, will be presented for three jnights, and it will be followed on Tuesday ~i>y a revival of "The Silver Fox," in which Mr.: Lawrence Grossmith first introduced himself to Wellington audiences. The season will conclude on' -Thursday night. The box plans are at The Bristol.
