SHORTT'S THEATRE.

, Romantic melodrama based ' upon gypsy life, with scenes laid in France,' form a basis upon which has been built a remarkable story entitled "Gypsy Passion," which is to be screened for the first time at Shortt's Theatre to-day. Mme. Rejane, who has been acknowledged as one of the greatest actresses France has ever produced, and who died since the picture was released, occupies the role of the old gypsy, Romany Kate. Miarka,^ a young girl, according to Romany Kate, is to marry the chief of all the gypsies. The heroine, the old woman/ and the former's tame bear live upon the estate of ;an elderly man who is kindly disposed toward Romany Kate because of his interest in gypsies. A gardener robs the master and plots successfully in making Kate appear as the guilty one. She is convicted, but the bear jumps to the rescue and kills the gardener, and he confesses his crime. The old lady discovering that Miarka is in love with the master's nephew takes her away, but he is really the king of all the gypsies. The star is supported by Desdemona Mazza, Jean Richepin, and Ivor Novello. Included in the programme are a Pathe ■ Gazette and Review, a scenic, and a two-reel comedy. -
