THIS MORNING'S RACE POSTPONED

GRIEVANCE ABOUT COURSES.

Unfavourable- weather .again interfered with the arrangements for the sailing of the Sanders Cup race today. The race, -which was abandoned yesterday on account of two of the contestants capsizing, was to have.been re-sailed at 11 ; o'clock this morning, but conditions were so uncertain an hour before that time that the Sailing Committee considered it wise to postpone the event until 3 o'clock in the hope that the weather would clear.

The postponement was welcomed by the crews 'of the boats "which upset in yesterday's race, for it gave .them more time to repair the damage to their craft. Tha Otago boat June, which turned turtle shortly after the start from the head of Evans Bay fared worst. In capsizing she smashed her bowsprit arid her mast carried away. The Hawkes Bay, boat, Konini, lost her rudder and tiller. Both were carefully inspected on being brought back to the hard at the Boafr Harbour, and rfo serious damage was revealed. This morning the crews employed themselves with attending to minor leaks and drying their wet sails. The lost and broken .parts have been replaced with spare gear.

Some of the spectators of yesterday's race were heard to voice a grievance about the lack of consideration shown to the general public in the matter of the course. The chief complaint was that insufficient aotice was given of the course to be followed. The Dominion Yachting Council . decided on Monday evening that the course should be fixed by the Sailing Committte one hour before the start of each race. Unfortunately for the general public it is impracticable to give much more than an hour's notice of the course to. be followed, as the choice depends largely upon the weather, which, in Wellington, as "every local yachtsman knows, is liable to change uh expectedly. The folly of, racing small boats in a strong wind in Evans Bay was demonstrated yesterday, and it is probable that most of the races will be sailed in view of the city, starting from a line off the Clyde Quay Wharf.
