SEVEN-STORY BUILDING - ( - PLANNED.
Very shortly work will be commenced in the erection of a seven-story building in Aitken street, planned on the linos of the latest idea in "Bat" dwellings, such as have been carried out recently in the Astor building in Sydney. As planned, the block, having a frontage of 190 ft., .will comprise twenty-eight flats, the perpetual rights of which will, if the Sydney plan is followed, be available for sale to individual occupiers iat a probable average price of _ about £2000. Each will be sound-proofed against its neighbours, and most of the flats will comprise six rooms, including a'large reception room, three bedfoms, hall, dining Pullman, kitchenette, and balcony. Residents of the flats and their friends may be served with grills in what is known as the service room, situated in the main foyer entrance, and,'in additibn,'there will be grill rooms on each of the floors. Details of interior design may be according to the desire of the purchaser.. The aim of the .:' promoters of ' the scheme is to provide homes for professional and business men with small families who are desirous of living as close as possible to the city, and to provide not merely a bare home, but an attractive dwelling.' A complete telephone system will be infialled, and the latest approved ideas of house planning and architecture will be embodied in general planning l and in, the fitting of each flat.
The grounds will be laid out in lawns, gardens, and glass houses, and a promenade and roof garden are also planned. . ( A building of a similar type will be erected iin Auckland very shortly.
