BREACH OF THE PEACE

As a result .of a scuffle in Jackson street, Petone, on 24th November. 1923, a large sheet of plate'glass, va'liied at over £19, was broken, and groceries to the value of about £5 were damaged by the .falling glass. At the local Court yesterday William M'Lean (Mr. C. B. O'Ponnell) "and. .R. Nankivell (Mr. G. Findlay) appeared each on two charges of doing wilful damage and causing a breach of the peace. After hearing the evidence againsr Nankivell and the accused's own statement in defence, Mr. C. K. 'On;-Walker, S.M., entirely exonerated M'Lean, and dismissed .the information against him.. For committing a breach of the peace Nankivell was fined £3 and costs, and in regard to causing wilful damage the case was adjourned for a month to enable Nankivell W make arrangements to pay for the damage' done.
