NOTES BY "SIR LANCELOT"

Satisfactory fields are engaged in all events to-morrow at Trentham, the smallest, field being eight in the Man-, garoa High Weight Handicap. The distance of that event is two furlongs shorter, as compared with the first day, and. should suit Red Cherry, and MaJingerer. Carawock has gone up a ptone, and meetsNPalamon on bib worse ierms.

The minimum weight in the January Welter is 7,7, as against 8.0 on the opening day. Second and third place-getters in the Anniversary, Prince Ferouz and Royal Divorce, have been dropped 21b and-41b respectively. Some of the alsostarted division have been dropped aa much as 91b. Gay Juliet, a good miler, is one of them. Martian Miss is a fresh horse engaged. Ardour, who.won at Trentham in the spring, is more in her class than in the Cup with the minimum weight. Nigger Minstrel was allowed to drop out of■' the Nursery Handicap, leaving Killocra top weight. .Rachael, who will improve, has gone up 51b, and Lady Bentinck, the other place-getter, lib. Quiescent, who beati Rachael at the Wairarapa'and was close up to the placed division on Tuesday, has been dropped 21b.

The conditions/of the Trial Plate permit previous winners in Hall Mark and Sir Pam to compete. Entre Nous was placed in the Ruapehu Handicap on the opening day. Glimpse,"who was unlucky not to win on either day at the Wairarapa, may be the choice of backers.

Roseday was in front at a mile and three furlongs in the Cup, and although he has been raised a couple of "pounds in the Racing Club Handicap he may run well. He meets Gold Light on 51b better terms. The shorter distance may suit Limelight,'who meets Roseday on, only a pound better terms. Most of' the others who failed in the Cup have been dropped a pound or two.' Enthusiasm may do better to-morrow.

Most of the runners in the Apprentices' Plate are down to run in the Douro Cup, a mile. ' Ihapotoa has gone up a stone, Star Kanger 121b, and White Comet 161b as compared with what they carried on the first day. Pantagruel, who came fourth, has also gone up 121b. The figures.point to Star Ranger as being nicely treated, • although White Comet was a popular pick for the race before* the meeting. Among the fresh horses engaged are two winners duTing the holidays in Sunshot and Geranial.

Parody was not paid up for in the Metropolitan. Rational has been raised 51b and Lovesign lib. The top weight, Ultfntruiu, is dropped 21b; also Queen March. The fresh horses engaged in the sprint event include Mireusonta and Chimera.

Merit was allowed to drop out of the Camp Handicap in favour of Piquant. The last-named won at the Wairarapa, and Will be a popular pick with backers. Bugle Note, runner-up to Merit, has been raised 51b, while most of tfie unsuccessful ones in Tuesday's. race have been dropped a couple of pounds.
