After enjoying to the full '-the gift of a perfect day for the.holiday yesterday, Wellington awoke to rain this morning, and the flannels and parasols of yesterday were replaced by raincoats and umbrellas. Atmospheric pressure has increased in the southern districts, but, according .to the Dominion Meteorologist a disturbance has been located northward of the Dominion, and the warm and humid conditions are giving pla.ee to cloudy and unsettled weather, with rain in many parts of the Dominion, The indications are for bountiful rainfall, and easterly winds, strong to gale,' are likely to be experienced northward of East Cape- 3nd Kawhia, and south-easterlies . may be expected • elsewhere.

The thermometer yesterday reached 81.6, about two degrees lower than it was on the previous day. Many people thought that yesterday was hotter than Monday, but that opinion was no doubt due to the fact that .the atmosphere yesterday was-muggy.-
