EPIDEMIC OF FIRES
BRIGADES BUSY IN SYDNEY.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIOHT ) SYDNEY, 22nd January. The city fire brigades had a busy time in the early hours of the morning. After quelling an outbreak in Empire House, Clarence street, where extensive damage was done to the property of various firms, they had to hurry to Beard Watson s, where big workshops 150 feet by 70 feet, packed with a large quantity of, valuable machinery and stock, were completely destroyed. The fire was most spectacular. By splendid efforts the brigade managed to save a monster storage warehouse adjoining, where hundreds of thousands of pounds' worth of furniture was stored. '
