(Received 23rd January, 11 a.m.)
LONDON, 22nd January. .Regarding the railway blockade in tha Cologne Area by the "French authorities, which is said to be engaging the attention of the British Government, the Paris correspondent of "The Times'" is authorised to state that the decision to restrict traffic between the French and British zones was taken by the authoriies on the spot. It was not an act of high policy, and the French Foreign Office ordered it as a measure with no other object than that of aDowing time for clearing the Neussdueren line, which is intolerably congested. It is apparently intended to keep the restrictions in force as long as the transport difficulties continue. The suggestion that the measure was taken in order to deprive Cologne of' trade facilities and bring pressure to bear on the British v-Occupation authorities is strongly deprecated.
