PROTECTION DROPPED
NO MENTION IN KING'S SPEECH.

LONDON, llfch-Jenuary. The "Daily Telegraph" says that Cabinet, after a- two and,a half hours' meeting, decided Mo drop the 'Protectionist issue. The Kii)g's. Speech will' contain no mention of a general tariff on manufactured goods. Certain -Ministers strongly, desired to nail the Protectionist flag to the jnast, but they will accept the present decision loyally. The Speech -will include proposals for an expansion- of the Preference System, assistance to development schemes in the Dominions, - and other ' matters agreed upon at tha Empire Conferences.
